TAS Athletics Carnival

Apart from the later finish than predicted the ‘Sports God’s’ were certainly watching over out TAS athletics team yesterday with good weather (the predicted storm went around us instead) a pretty good run both ways in the traffic and some FANTASTIC results in the carnival.

Finishing in 2nd place last year out goal was to bring home the premiership trophy and the team succeeded. With each successive results update naming us in first place it was a great boost to the team morale and encouraged the athletes to give that bit more and bring home the trophy.

The team talk at the start of the day really emphasized that a collective effort was needed by all competitors to ensure our success at the end of the day, with every event filled and all athletes trying their hardest. Almost every age finished in the top 3 with results as follows: 1st place age groups: 16 years boys and girls; 2nd place age groups: 13yrs boys, 14yrs girls, 15yrs boys and girls and open boys; 3rd place – 13yrs girls and 14yrs boys.

Our best individual performances were our TAS Top point scorers for the day - Morgan Eldrett & Josh Connolly and our 6 athletes who were TAS age champions – Zane Brown, Taylor Sticker, Morgan Eldrett, Ben Schmidtchen, Jaiden Velt, & Joshua Connolly, with Ella Connolly finishing in 2nd place. While these individual performances are significant, it is a collective effort from the age groups to ensure they were as successful as they were and in particular I would like to thank the students who filled in events and came as reserves.

Lastly thanks need to go to the parents for getting the athletes to the bus nice and early in the morning & to Mr Brad Anderson, Mr Mark Lucas and Mrs Edita Friedman for assisting me with coaching & Mr Mike Connelly, Brad Anderson, Mark Lucus, Paul Schaumberg, and Krissy Parker for their assistance at the TAS carnival.

Congratulations once again to all the athletes for your fantastic achievement of 1st place – we last got this distinction in 2006 & 2007, but not for a long time prior to this.
