The Theatresports inter-school competition season runs across Term Two and Three (dates and locations for the heats are released at the end of Term One). Students who participate on the St Columban's team are required to attend:
The Spirit Committee also looks after the year 8/9 girls and boys retreats held here at the college and co-ordinates the 40 hour fast with all proceeds supporting the St Columban's mission program. Rosies street outreach is another fantastic outreach that the Spirit Committee is involved in as well as helping organise 40 Christmas hampers at the end of the year for St Vincent's De Paul.
St Columban’s College aspires to the ‘Edmund Rice’ philosophy which states Catholic schools should be sensitive to and help to promulgate Church appeals for justice. Justice then holds an important place in the curriculum and encourages the school community to work for social and ecological justice in the school and society generally. The St Columban’s ‘Environment Committee’ consists of three teachers and a variety of students from all year levels who are focussed on working towards the creation of a sustainable planet and addressing the environmental and justice issues intertwined in how humans are called to relate to Gods creation.
Our main project ‘Creation We Care – Waste Minimisation & Community Garden Project’, is focussed on highlighting major challenges facing humanity including, environmental degradation, limits to resources and threats to biodiversity, more specifically litter which is attributed to the loss of mammals and birds in Moreton Bay. It is a long term project based on the concept of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’.
The Street Retreat Program is an exciting outreach program for students aged sixteen (16) to seventeen (17) or Grade 11 & 12. This program is designed to provide students the opportunity to take part in volunteer outreach with the less fortunate in our community. The Program provides practical and social education in respect to the issues facing the most marginalised in our community. Our students are part of the Caboolture street van outreach and head off with a staff member once a month to help serve in the local community.
